Many people enter the World of Warcraft without one basic understanding: Making WoW gold is easy. You don't have to buy, you don't even need to work very hard, and you most certainly don't have to beg or rely on friends. On this page, we'll share a few “secrets” that many gamers use to do everything from get their first mount, to buying their epic flying skill and even buying the very expensive special mounts like motorcycles and mammoths.

A lot of players assume that the auction house is just a place to sell drops you find and things you spend hours farming – or worse, they know that you can make money through buying and reselling items for profit but they think it's something that you need a large sum of gold to start doing. Not so. In fact, I'm including a video of a guy who starts a character at level one, uses the silver he gains through leveling to five, vendors his gear and with the four silver he has total makes 1,000 gold playing only four hours (spread out over a week or so). You might be saying “Four hours is a lot of time for a thousand gold...” but the people who think you need a good amount of startup gold are partially right – the more gold you have to start with, the more you stand to make in the same amount of time spent. Starting with, say, 1,000g vs his 4s will yield much greater results.

So how do I do it?

Well the first thing you'll need is a little addon called Auctioneer (http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/auctioneer.aspx and a note: any and all addons linked on this page have been checked and run by me for one but I urge you to check these and any others you get with your virus scanner to protect yourself from keyloggers) and what this does is, simply, track the economy. It's not against the Blizzard Terms of Service (TOS) and it grows in usefulness the more you use it. In fact, doing a daily scan for a week or so before you start trying to put it to use is not a bad idea at all. What it's going to do is scan the AH and keep track of the average price that items are going for. So, say Dream Shards usually go for 20g, if you set Auctioneer to scan for bargains and it sees these shards at 11g (for example, you can actually set it to scan only for items you can make a certain amount of profit on), it will show up with the item price, how much it usually goes for and how much gold you stand to make by buying and reselling.

It doesn't always work – not everything you pick up will sell but you'll make more than enough with those items that do. This is easily the best, most reliable method of generating WoW gold and within a week, buying gold or endless farming will be a thing of the past.

While no one should pass up the money to be made using auctioneer, if you'd like a little more or maybe just some quicker returns that you don't mind putting in a few more hours of work for, Mining is the only profession you need. For this method in our World of Wwarcraft gold guide, you'll need access to a Jewelcrafter and Enchanter as well, but if you have friends with these professions who don't mind donating time and clicking a button, mining is all that you personally need. It will generate all materials needed.

If you don't have mining, don't worry! It makes money even while you're leveling it thanks to blacksmiths, jewelcrafters and engineers who ALL use the spoils gotten from this profession – and the materials from the old world you'll get while skilling up mining sell well to those power leveling these other professions as there's usually few sources. Most of their materials come from people doing exactly what you're doing: Skilling up mining. Essentially, most people doing this get to set their own prices for the materials, and they will sell so long as they're not insane. Do searches for both the type of ore you have and the bars it will produce to see which is the best money maker at a given time.

That's Great, But Where's The Real Money?

Mine Ice Crown and Sholazar Basin and keep EVERYTHING. Even those little “useless” green gems you find because we're going to get bigger returns than you thought from them. Whenever you feel like you have enough, grab your jewelcrafter (your own or your friend) and look up the rings they can make. Notice all the recipes that put those green gems to use? Good. We're going to make MANY of them using the Eternal Earth and green gems you stocked up. These rings themselves are essentially worthless. No one is going to buy them. But that's where enchanting comes in.

Thank your JC friend and either mail the rings to your enchanter or grab THAT friend and we're nearly done. Now comes a long time of standing in Dalaran either hitting or watching someone hit “Disenchant” repeatedly.

Surely you've wanted to have an item enchanted, looked up the materials needed and lamented the cost of dust and essences; the supposedly “cheaper” materials as opposed to shards and crystals. They're always through the roof and have been since Burning Crusade. Well guess what? Now you're the guys with stockpiles of dust and essences.

Weekends are usually the best times to sell, more people playing means more people buying and the price gets driven up. This isn't always the case as sometimes multiple sellers will undercut one another's prices trying to make quick gold, driving the price down, but it always bounces back: And what do you care? This is all pure profit for you.

A wise move is to save enough materials to get multiple pieces enchanted yourself so that you don't end up buying these ridiculously priced mats yourself should you get a few lucky drops. Aside from that, sell the rest.

The best part of this is that you have a lot of things left over. Saronite, Titanium, Eternals. Sell the saronite, checking whether ore or bars are most profitable first (usually ore), make Titansteel when you can, either for crafting items for yourself or for selling for as much as 100g per bar or more.

And, if you are using friends, make sure to kick mats back their way when they need them so they'll be happier to continue helping you. :)

So you're in the newest raid instance. Congratulations! While with all the competition for server and faction firsts going on, you might feel like everyone on your realm is doing the same but the vast majority are not, which gives you access to some items that you might not have thought about as good profit generation.

Primal Nether, Nether Vortex, Heart of Darkness, Sunmotes, Frozen Orbs and now Runed Orbs. Each time a new tier of raiding content has come about, there has been a new item needed for crafting the plans and patterns that are now in the game. Everyone wants them and while those that drop might be, and probably are, exclusive to your guild, Blizzard started a new trend in WotLK: Buying these highly profitable, non-soulbound items with badges/emblems.

I've personally made over 15k in runed orb sales. You get enough emblems to buy a runed orb in just over one Ulduar clear if you're not doing hard modes and much more quickly if you are for fights like Flame Leviathan that drop multiple emblems on hard mode.

Runed Orbs aren't the biggest sellers right now and I was late to the game, I have to admit. I missed out on their heyday of upwards of 6k per orb on my server. Now you're fortunate to get about 1k. So what's the big screaming deal? Well with every content patch, there's a new flavor of the month.

Get it, sell it, instant gold. The quicker you can get together the emblems needed for the new FotM item, the more likely you are to make more than 5k on a single sale of an item you're getting just as a byproduct to raiding: no added farming on your part whatsoever.
